I’m no professional music studio producer, but I do spend a lot of time recording music at home, and I do take it seriously. I often use recording as a tool to compose and arrange new music in addition to producing polished sounding demos. The use of recording techniques in a teaching environment have proved to be useful and quite fun. Music recordings are very transparent and can reveal a lot about one’s own playing. I often use recording as a final step once a student has learned a song completely. If they can record it accurately then they are ready to move on to the next song. Not to mention that they get to take home a recording of their own playing. This also applies to students who are working on original music and song writing.
It’s common in music lessons for teachers to play along with students so the student can absorb and imitate all of the subtleties of a section of music that they are having trouble with. Another way that recording comes in handy while teaching is to record these challenging passages for students so they can practice along with them at home, making the most out of their practice sessions while away from the teacher.
Outside of just teaching, I also record demos for singers and song writers who want good sounding examples of their songs or cover songs for auditions, portfolios, websites, or just to share with friends and family. Please contact me if you would like to hear examples of demos that I have produced or if you would like to get a quote for a song you want recorded. My rates for recording demos vary depending on the project and how much time will be put into it.
